Load Testing

EJ performs regular Proof Load Tests & Serviceability Load Tests performed in accordance with the latest revision of AS3996.

For highway traffic service this test is described as a 210kN load concentrated on a 240x240mm block placed in the center of the grate or cover and held for one minute. This is repeated for 5 complete cycles. Deflections under load are measured with each test cycle.

The casting is carefully inspected after the test. Measurements are taken of the permanent set and compared against the allowable limits of the Standard. Any crack or detrimental deformation will cause the casting to be rejected.

Many EJ castings are tested far beyond the specified proof load, often to destruction. EJ maintains a fully calibrated load bearing testing machine and has been actively testing castings for many years.
