Side Entry Covers
Side Entry Pits (S.E.P.) are used where the roadway is drained to pipes located behind the kerb and channel. A break in the kerb allows stormwater flowing along the channel to fall sideways into the pit.
A cover set consists of a cast iron insert (cover) and a precast concrete frame. The cover is normally filled with concrete prior to delivery to optimise the performance of the cover.
SEP cover sets are available in two patterns :
Because side entry pits are located behind the kerb line, the covers are not subjected to high speed traffic, channel grates are not required and routine maintenance need not disturb traffic flow. The large entry slot is difficult to block.
SEP covers preserve the aesthetics of the streetscape because they blend into the kerb line and pedestrians are safeguarded by assuring that the covers shroud the pit entry.
